A Lesson with Miss Rachael

Andy - Today I __ very happy. (Today I AM very happy). (Why?) Because….I got a new toy. He then showed me a pile of legos that will later become a police car!

I read a book today. (Lisa is always reading, what a superstar! After mentioning Andy’s toys, she also showed me her new toy)

I got a new toy today. — Lisa

We finished up sticker charts today and practiced asking for stickers in this format:

“I would like….(the purple car), please.”

It took a few tries, but both Andy and Lisa perfected this very polite way of making requests!

We then began Unit 6 by slowly going over each place in the house. We emphasized that the bathtub is found in the bathroom and the bed is found in the bedroom.

“It’s a bathroom.” Andy and Lisa’s pronunciation of sentences and individual words has improved greatly over the course of our time together! One focus area for now is the /th/ in bathroom (Lisa) and also the difference between “There are” and “They are” (Andy is having bit more difficulty with this, but something I will continue to practice with both Lisa and Andy)

We also practiced some expansion on what they could see in various places in the house (as well as noting that Lisa was taking class in the living room and Andy was taking class in the bedroom).

“I can see a TV in the living room.” — Andy

“I can see a sofa in the living room.” — Lisa

We then began our practice of “There’s a/ There are….)

When we got to the cat, both Andy and Lisa expanded, stating:

There’s an orange cat! Fantastic work! We emphasized the “an” sound, pulling in work from previous units.

There are….. three dogs.

Note: Focus on r in there and s at end of noun. TheRE are three dogSSSS.

There are thirteen frogs — Lisa (great pronunciation!)

On a picture with one spider, Andy and Lisa both began counting the legs.

There’s a spider.

There are eight legs on a spider.

Lisa and Andy did an excellent job matching the monsters and their bedrooms based on the number of frogs, and that wrapped up class!
